PRIVACY POLICY FOR MARKED
=========================
Effective date: August 5, 2026
Marked (“the App”) is operated by Community Culture Church, Inc. (“Community Culture Church,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, what your youth leader can see, and the choices you and your parents have.
The short version
-----------------
- Marked works fully on your device without an account. The whole 52-week reading plan, the offline Bible, the studies, maps, and solo trivia need no sign-in, and none of that leaves your phone.
- If you create an account, we store your email, display name, and app data so it backs up and so you can join your church youth group.
- If you join a group, your youth leader can see your reading progress, your prayer requests, and any “next step” you send. Other students cannot.
- We never sell your information, show ads, or use advertising or analytics trackers. There are none in the App.
- Students under 13 can use everything on their device, but account-linked features stay locked until a parent or guardian signs a permission form and a leader confirms it.
- You can delete your account and all of its data at any time, in the App or by requesting deletion here.
Who this App is for
-------------------
Marked is a Bible-literacy and discipleship app made for the students of Community Culture Church’s youth ministry, generally grades 7 through 12. Because some 7th graders are under 13, the App supports younger students through the parental consent process described in Children’s privacy.
Information we collect
----------------------
1. Nothing, until you create an account
The App is designed to work without an account. If you never sign in, your reading progress, notes, highlights, reflections, prayer journal, and trivia scores are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us.
2. Your age, which stays on your device
When you set up the App, we ask for your date of birth, so we can tell whether you are under 13 and apply the right protections.
Your date of birth is stored only on your device and is never sent to us. If you later create an account, the only thing transmitted is a simple indicator of whether the account belongs to someone under 13.
3. Information you provide when you create an optional account
- Email address — to create and secure your account and sign you in.
- Display name — the name you choose, shown to your youth leader so they know who you are.
- Sign in with Apple / Google (optional) — the provider gives us a basic account identifier and, depending on your settings, your email and/or name. You can use Apple’s “Hide My Email.” We never receive your Apple or Google password.
4. Content and activity synced to your account
- Reading progress, completed days, quiz results, streaks, badges, and reminder preferences.
- Your personal notes, reflection answers, verse notes, and highlights.
- Bible trivia scores, and challenges you play against others in your group.
5. Information you send to your youth leader
These features exist so a real person at your church can walk with you. They are shared with your group’s leaders and church administrators — never with other students, and never publicly.
- Prayer requests you submit, including whatever you write in them.
- Next steps you tap — such as “I decided to follow Jesus,” “I want to get baptized,” “I have a question,” or “I want to talk to a leader” — plus any note you add.
- Group membership once you join with your leader’s code.
Please note: prayer requests and next steps can reveal your religious beliefs. We treat this as sensitive information, we limit who can see it to your own church leaders, and we never use it for any purpose other than pastoral follow-up.
6. Push notification token
If you allow notifications, your device is issued a push token that lets us deliver alerts — for example, letting a leader know a student reached out, or telling you a friend challenged you to trivia. The token identifies the device, not you personally, and is used only to deliver the App’s notifications.
What we do NOT collect
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone recordings, health data, financial information, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. The App contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs of any kind. Your searches of the Bible run entirely on your device and are never sent to us.
What your youth leader can see
------------------------------
If you join a group, the leaders of that group and church administrators can see:
- Your display name and which group you are in;
- Your reading activity — days read, weeks completed, current streak, and when you were last active;
- Prayer requests and next steps you send;
- Your Bible trivia high score on the group leaderboard.
They cannot see your personal notes, your highlights, your reflection answers, or your prayer journal. Other students can only ever see your display name and trivia score on the group leaderboard.
How we use your information
---------------------------
We use your information solely to:
- Provide the App’s features and sync your progress across your devices;
- Create, secure, and support your account;
- Let your youth leaders encourage, pray for, and follow up with you;
- Send the notifications you have enabled;
- Respond to your questions or requests.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or to sell or rent to third parties.
How your information is stored and shared
-----------------------------------------
- On your device: stored locally using your device’s standard app storage.
- In the cloud (signed-in users only): stored with Supabase, our managed database and authentication provider. Access rules ensure each account can only read and write its own data, plus the limited leader access described above. Data travels over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
- Service providers: we share data only with providers that help us operate the App — Supabase (database, authentication), Expo (delivery of push notifications), and, if you choose them, Apple or Google (sign-in). They process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the App.
- We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.
Daily reminders and other device features
-----------------------------------------
- Daily reading reminders are scheduled locally on your device. You control them in the App and in your device settings; declining notifications does not limit core features.
- “Listen” (text-to-speech) uses your device’s built-in speech features and does not send your content to us.
- Bible text (Berean Standard Bible, public domain) is bundled for offline reading. Links to other translations open the YouVersion app or website, governed by its own privacy policy.
- Maps use a bundled public-domain relief image (Natural Earth). No mapping service is contacted and no location data is used.
Children’s privacy
------------------
Marked is used by students in our youth ministry, some of whom are under 13. We take the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously, and the App is built so that no personal information is collected from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
How it works for students under 13
- A student under 13 can use the entire teaching experience — the 52-week journey, the offline Bible, all study tracks, memory verses, maps, solo trivia, notes and prayer journal — with no account and no information collected.
- If they create an account and join a group, all personal-data features stay locked: they cannot send prayer requests or next steps, their progress is not synced, they do not appear on leaderboards, and no push token is stored.
- Those features unlock only after a parent or guardian signs our youth ministry permission form and a youth leader confirms in the App that the signed form is on file.
- This is enforced by our servers, not merely hidden in the App.
Parents and guardians: your rights
If your child is under 13, you may at any time:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child;
- Refuse or withdraw consent — we will re-lock the account’s personal-data features;
- Request deletion of your child’s personal information and account.
To do any of these, contact us at jeff@communityculture.church with your child’s name and the group they are in. We will verify that you are their parent or guardian before acting on the request.
We collect only what the App needs to work, we never condition a child’s participation on disclosing more than is reasonably necessary, and we do not use children’s information for advertising or profiling of any kind.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your choices and rights
-----------------------
- Use without an account — nothing is sent to us.
- Access and update — your data is visible and editable within the App.
- Delete your account and data — in the App, open Account and choose Delete account. You can also request deletion from the web.
- Click here to view how to delete your account - https://www.communityculture.church/pages/marked-delete-account
- Delete individual items — prayer requests, next steps, and journal entries can each be removed in the App.
- Turn off notifications at any time in the App or your device settings.
- Sign out at any time; your local data remains on your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, port, or delete your personal information. To make a request, contact us below.
Data retention
--------------
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, its cloud data is deleted. Local data remains on your device until you delete it or remove the App. When a student leaves the youth ministry, the student, a parent, or a guardian may request deletion at any time using the methods above.
Security
--------
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and per-account access controls, to protect your information. Access to prayer requests and next steps is restricted to that student’s own group leaders and church administrators. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit what we collect in the first place.
International users
-------------------
Your information may be processed and stored on servers operated by our service providers. By using the App, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.
Changes to this policy
----------------------
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Effective date” above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the App or by other reasonable means. If a change materially affects information collected from children under 13, we will seek parental consent again where required.
